FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
On May 15th, a teacher in our School District became the target of an online threat posted by a student. The threatening message was immediately reported to the school administration and the Grant County Sheriff's Office.
Recognizing the gravity of the situation, the Grant County Sheriff's Office promptly launched an investigation in collaboration with Wahluke School District. The investigation led to the identification and subsequent arrest and expulsion of the student responsible for the threatening message.
The individual (youth have their identity withheld due to legal requirements related to minors) has been taken into custody and will face appropriate legal consequences.
With the safety and security of our students and staff as our top priority, we must take every threat seriously.
From the Grant County Sheriff’s Office: Wahluke School District teacher was notified by school security of an online threat that included a photo created by a 12-year-old male student. The photo showed the student holding what appeared to be a handgun and a piece of paper with a caption that included expletives and the teacher’s name. Deputies consulted with the Prosecuting Attorney’s Office and the 12yo was arrested and booked for investigation of felony harassment. The boy is lodged in the Chelan County juvenile detention center. The weapon, which turned out to be a replica weapon, was gathered as evidence.

El 15 de mayo, un maestro de nuestro distrito escolar se convirtió en el objetivo de una amenaza en línea publicada por un estudiante. El mensaje amenazante se informó de inmediato a la administración de la escuela y a la Oficina del Sheriff del condado de Grant.
Reconociendo la gravedad de la situación, la Oficina del Sheriff del Condado de Grant inició de inmediato una investigación en colaboración con el Distrito Escolar de Wahluke.
