Thanks to the IMLS American Rescue Plan grant a complete overhaul of the junior high library has begun. In April, the library’s book collection was reviewed with old and damaged books were removed and $23,000 worth of new books were added. The collection was also weeded for easier browsability and students can now officially check out books for the first time since 2016. The Junior high also formed a design committee of students and staff that is working to recreate the space including choosing a new color palette to paint the library and redesigning the layout of the space. These design changes will happen over the summer and will welcome students and staff on the first day of the 2022-23 school year. 📚☀️🎉📚☀️ Gracias a la subvención del Plan de Rescate Estadounidense de IMLS, se ha iniciado una revisión completa de la biblioteca de la secundaria. This year we have worked hard to create our first-ever Preschool Library. This library will hold a collection of books that our preschool teachers can use with their classes as well as a place where parents can come to check out books to read to their children at home. Almost every book purchased is bilingual in Spanish & English. We hope this library will support our goals toward early literacy and creating a love of reading starting at a young age. We can’t wait to have the books out in circulation starting in the 2022-23 school year. 📚💛📚👏🏽📚 Este año hemos trabajado duro para crear nuestra primera biblioteca preescolar. Did you notice the new look? 👀 Check out one of the projects the District's Maintenance Team did over spring break. They added rubber to our elementary playgrounds to keep up with safety standards. We are excited to offer digital books available to all staff and students!! Students are able to check out eBooks and Audiobooks from their school or personal devices with their Wahluke log in and can even access books they’ve checked out without internet access. In addition, NCW libraries agreed to open their collection up to area schools. Students are now able to check out digital books from the NCW libraries collection without a library card using their Wahluke credentials. The Sora app is available as a free app or can be opened in the web browser. This is the perfect opportunity to promote reading among our students no matter where they are and even when the libraries are closed. 📚📚📚📚📚📚📚 ¡Estamos emocionados de ofrecer libros digitales disponibles para todo el personal y los estudiantes! In June 2020 we were notified that we were awarded the IMLS Accelerating Practices for Small Libraries grant for Wahluke High School. This two-year grant focused on updating the library into a place supporting communication, collaboration, and creativity. This grant provides funding to purchase new furniture for the space, offering professional development, and staff to keep the library open beyond the regular school year. In October 2021, we were notified that we were awarded the IMLS American Rescue Plan grant. This year-long grant will update the book collections in our three libraries and junior high. The grant also provides maker space supplies for all libraries, purchase of digital books in Sora, and professional development focusing on building a culture of reading in our district. 📚📚📚📚📚📚📚📚 En junio de 2020, se nos notificó que obtuvimos la beca de IMLS Prácticas aceleradas para bibliotecas pequeñas (Accelerating Practices for Small Libraries) para Wahluke High School. April is School Library Month. Over the past two years, we have been hard at work updating and ensuring that all of our libraries meet the needs of our staff and students. Our hope is to foster reading as a lifelong activity through pleasurable exposure to printed and digital materials, and ensure our students are taught how to access and use the information to further their learning in the classroom and beyond. Our library staff works collaboratively with teachers to provide relevant learning experiences and help students achieve district and state academic standards. Over this month, we will highlight all of the amazing work that has been completed and share some of the new programs and features provided through the library. 📚 📚 📚 📚 📚 📚 📚 📚 Abril es el Mes de la Biblioteca Escolar. En los últimos dos años, hemos trabajado arduamente para actualizar y garantizar que todas nuestras bibliotecas satisfagan las necesidades de nuestro personal y estudiantes.
