Wahluke School District

All WSD School will have a 2 hour delay start for Monday January 3rd due to weather. Primary Students (K-5th Grade) will start school at 10:15 AM and Secondary Students (6th-12th Grade) will start school at 10:00 AM. There will be no CBTech Buses. Hello WSD! We hope you all had a great and safe winter break. We want to remind all or parents, students and staff about or WSD COVID-19 protocols and procedures. We are still following the COVID-19 Student and Staff Symptom Flowchart. It is also on the district's website, under the COVID-19 tab. We are aware that WA DOH has updated their guidelines to match the CDC, however, per Grant County Health Department, we will continue to follow the previous guidelines until OSPI has updated their K-12 Guidance. So, please be aware that there will be some changes coming soon in the quarantine procedures.  A basic overview: * Masks are required on campus, indoors, regardless of vaccination status. They may be removed or lowered when eating and/or drinking, but should be replaced immediately after.  * Students should maintain a 3 foot distance, staff should maintain a 6 foot distance. * Handwashing, with soap and water, should occur several times throughout the day.  * Vaccines are now available for all students and staff ages 5 and up. Booster shots are available if you are 6 months out from your last vaccination shot.  * If you are experiencing any COVID symptoms, STAY HOME. The School District and the Health Team are working hard to ensure that the District is staying safe and up-to-date in the constantly evolving world of COVID-19. The WSD Safety and Security Team would like to share some information about the recent December 17th TikTok threat against schools please be advised: Recently an anonymous TikTok post proclaiming a day of violence against schools on December 17th began trending. There are no credible sources or evidence to support it. Wahluke School District has been in contact with local law enforcement and other safety staff from across the state, as well as monitoring other agency communication across the county. All are considering it a non-credible hoax. Out of an abundance of caution, there will be an increased police presence on all of our school campuses on Friday, December 17th. Ensuring that WSD Schools are a safe place for our students, staff, and community. While we know this social media activity is out there, we also know that the vast majority of our students do the right thing every day. We are proud and grateful our students follow and uphold our Warrior Code daily and value our school culture. We want to thank the students and families who swiftly reported seeing the posts to WSD administration, and we encourage you to speak with your student and let them know that WSD takes every threat seriously. Students may face possible suspension and/or expulsion for making threats and potential legal consequences. ​Mr. Estalilla from SME has shared some wonderful updates about this weekend's first Robotics Tournament that Morris Schott and Saddle Mountain attended at Foothills Middle School in Wenatchee. WSD Staff, Delia Tlatenchi, Eduardo Enriquez, Juan Mata from MSE and Katie Ruiz, Alondra Castro, Veronica Castillo, and Jose "Ralph" Estalilla accompanied 8 teams from SME and 4 teams from MSSE. We are excited and proud of all the work that our students have done to get this far and Thank our staff and families for supporting our students in this journey. Thank you to all our staff, students, and community members for all your help during the Wahluke winter wonderland event this past weekend. It was great to partner up with the Mattawa/ DA Lions Clubs. WSD had a lot of happy guests and were able to enjoy some winter crafts, goodies and even got a visit from Mr. and Mrs. Clause. ❄️🎄🎉❄️🎄🎉❄️🎄🎉❄️🎄🎉 Gracias a todo nuestro personal, estudiantes y miembros de la comunidad por toda su ayuda durante el evento del país de las maravillas invernal de Wahluke este fin de semana pasado. WSD would like to share some important and exciting news. WSD is one of the few schools in Washington State that has been granted permission to continue to use our Warrior Image. Over the last six months, a group of Wahluke School District - WSD staff worked with the Wanapum Indians of Priest Rapids - Wanapum to discuss the future of the Wahluke Warrior, which has led us to work with our entire 13th District Legislative team, Representative Lekanoff (co-sponsor of HB 1356), and OPSI leadership. This led WSD and the Wanapum to meet with the Yakama Nation Tribal Council to share and present details regarding the Wahluke School District Native American Warrior image and the relationship the local tribe and school district have established since the conception of a school in Mattawa. The Yakama Nation, as the federal tribe identified in the legislation of House Bill 1356, shared their approval and support after the presentation of the continued use of the Wahluke Warrior image by WSD and additionally required the WSD to develop a memorandum of agreement by 2023 that will ensure the school district continues respectful and integral use of the Native American image. The Warrior image is representative of a relationship that began generations ago between WSD and Wanapum where Native American culture and heritage are intertwined into the daily life of students that attend WSD. Do you know the "warning signs or red flags" indicating your teen is using harmful or illegal substances? Parents are invited to a special event addressing youth substance use and problem behavior. Come and walk through a mock teen bedroom, learn about indicators and district resources to help you and your family. Refreshments are provided. There will not be childcare and no one under 18 will be allowed to enter. _____________________ ¿Conoce las "señales de advertencia o banderas rojas" que indican que su adolescente está usando sustancias dañinas o ilegales?
